ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Alex Fieldhouse grew up in Ontario, but moved to New Brunswick at the age of 19 to pursue ceramics full time at NBCCD (New Brunswick College of Craft & Design).
It was in high school that she had her first experience with clay, slab building a set of mugs. After being introduced to the medium, she began spending all of her lunch breaks in the art room working with clay.
While in high school, she purchased a kiln and established the small business of Alex's Ceramics. She began solely as a hand builder, creating functional work without the use of a pottery wheel. It wasn’t until September 2022 when she moved to Fredericton, NB that she began throwing on the wheel.
Alex is now confident with both hand building and wheel throwing. During her time at NBCCD, she learned to many skills that she now incorporates into her work. This includes utilizing natural materials in her pots, develop glaze recipes that are entirely her own, and exploring alternate forms of firing.
